The procedure involves injecting a solution, specifically Asclera®, directly into a vein. This causes the treated vein to seal shut and gradually fade from view. The body then naturally resorbs the treated blood vessel.

Asclera® is an FDA-approved solution utilized in sclerotherapy for treating two types of veins in the lower extremities (≤ 3 mm) and offers anesthetic properties to enhance patient comfort during the procedure.

The course covers essential topics such as venous anatomy and pathophysiology, patient selection, and the medical review process for both Medical Sclerotherapy and Cosmetic Sclerotherapy. It includes an examination of symptoms indicative of medical vein incompetence and a review of the deeper venous system's response to unwanted veins in patients, alongside cursory medical evaluations.

Participants will learn about FDA approved sclerosing agents used in Cosmetic Sclerotherapy, injection techniques for reticular and telangiectasias (thread veins), and understand possible complications and anticipated results for patients. A comprehensive review of pre, intraoperative, and post-operative protocols will also be conducted, including necessary administrative considerations.

The course will address the use of laser light energies for cosmetic vein treatments, elaborating on the mechanism of action, contraindications, and expected outcomes. It will also cover photodynamic medications that impact light energy treatments, as well as all treatment protocols.

Introduction to ultrasound-guided injections for large vein treatment targeting both peripheral and deep vein destruction will be provided. 

Case studies, billing and reimbursement, potential supplements, and pathways for additional education and training will also be discussed.

The hands-on segment will feature practical sclerotherapy techniques on live patients, utilizing FDA approved Asclera for both reticular veins and telangiectasias.
